How we practice

Eight things every practice does

  1. Every rep has a reason

Touches, decisions and correction — not standing in lines. Every drill connects to something we do in games.

  2. Compete in practice

Drills keep score. Practice should look and feel like the game, because that’s where the habits get built.

  3. Read, don’t memorize

Basketball is reading the defense, not memorizing plays. We teach what to do the moment the defense is out of position.

  4. Game speed

Shooting, finishing, passing and handling at the speed games are played. Don’t just drive fast — drive smart.

  5. Team habits

Spacing, cuts, screens, communication, transition and rebounding: the things that win possessions.

  6. Fit through basketball

We get in shape by playing fast. Sprinting both ways is part of everything we do. No jogging.

  7. Correct and move on

Mistakes are OK. Standing still is not. We coach it in the moment, then it’s next play.

  8. The work between practices

The driveway counts. Shooting, ball handling and finishing on your own time — greatness starts in the empty gym.

Our practice plans, drills and plays stay in the gym. This page is how we think about practice, not what we run.

Practice is where the habits get built.

Every rep, every drill, every week — the habits players build in practice are the ones that show up on tournament weekends.
